Whenever I come back from Melbourne I’m always a bit sad that the GC isn’t as grown up when it comes to food… yet. In the past couple of years dining out and drinking coffee here has become much more fun because there’s so many more choices. So I thought it was time I put down a list of my local faves (christened the ‘Golden Jam Jar Awards’).
Check out my best coffee post. Whilst reducing my dairy intake of late I’ve had a great opportunity to really taste coffee and am even more convinced the places on this list rock!
So how to put these into some sort of order? I guess I’ll start out with price (suggestions on how to classify these are welcome… suburb? food type?). Note that I’ve yet to blog some of these places but have definitely visited each of them (if I have blogged, I’ve put a ‘*’ next to the link, if I haven’t blogged yet the link will go to the restaurant’s website). Yum!
$ – under $15 per main
The Silo Cafe, Carrara Markets* (shameless plug – it’s our cafe, but it’s awesome!)
$$ – $15-25 per main
Harvest, Newrybar* (Yes this is not on the GC but worth travelling for. NB: lunch and dinner can fall into the $25+ category.)
Zullaz (Curry), Burleigh Heads (please try the goat [yes, goat] curry and their desserts!)
$$$ – $25 per main +
Oskars, Burleigh Heads (an old fave)
My GC dining out wish list for 2012:
That’s a rather short list, so suggestions welcome! (although I do intend to revisit those places I haven’t blogged about as yet so that will give me plenty to do 😉 )
Brisbane wish list: Montrachet (French), Pintxo Spanish Taperia, Ortiga, E’cco, Harajuku Gyoza, Anouk
Melbourne wish list: Too many to mention…!
